The invention of the elevator / with Lotte Lindner&Till Steinbrenner
2011
An excursion into the future of yesterday
Like a watchtower on a field of past dreams, the Dutch Pavilion stands at the border between the city of Hannover and the plain of Lower Saxony. Ten years ago it was hailed as a symbiosis of nature and technology, and then abandoned to its own devices. But this utopia is not easily obliterated. While the surrounding buildings have been demolished or put to new uses, the Dutch Pavilion has defied the weather, time and indeed oblivion. It is not dead, it is asleep. The artists scrutinize « past utopias of our present, while, at the same, keeping a keen eye on the future. Specially created for Theaterformen, this dramatic intervention collects voices from the city, explores contemporary concepts for the use of the former Expo sites and takes the viewer on a meditative walk through the ages. »
