Tempus Fugit
2014
Tempus Fugit finds inspiration in the monumental Leiewerken and the related urban development project. How did this ambitious plan change the image of the city? Where do the residents place themselves in this new image? And how strongly does a new environment influence the collective identity? What experiences were sucked into the soil during the Leiewerken and are now hiding under the mud? Starting from interviews of witnesses and residents the project invents a new form of ‘docu-fiction’. Personal memories, legends, fait divers and technical data collaborate to create an original ‘cantata’, a tribute to the liquid river and a meditation on the Western approach to progress.
Tempus Fugit, by pointing at the ideal image that city marketing pursues, speculate about ambition, time and how design should (not) shape our lives.
A performance for walking shoes, rainwear, hawaian flower rings, choir music, speaking banks, interventions in the landscape and a wealth of cyclists, joggers, singers, birdwatchers, archers and dog lovers along the Lys..
